WORK EXPERIENCE

City Airport & Heliport is able to offer a one week Work Experience placement at the airfield within the Air Traffic Services and Operations Department.

Because of such high demand, applications are only open for a short period each year.

All applicants must be available for a short telephone interview prior to being accepted for a placement and must live within a 20 mile radius of City Airport & Heliport (Postcode M30 7SA), which is located in Salford, Greater Manchester.

We are able to offer work experience placements to school, college and university students. Students are usually able to arrange work experience placements through their education establishment, although in some circumstances, the student can contact us directly to arrange a ‘Self Placement’. Please note that due to the demand, and to ensure that a valuable experience is gained from the placement.  Only those that have a genuine interest within Airport Operations and Air Traffic Services are invited to apply.

We are also able to offer work placements to students in further and higher education. Again, due to high demand we are only able to offer placements to students which are studying an aviation related subject. As well as providing valuable work experience within an aviation environment our work experience placements offer students a chance to develop a wide range of skills such as team working, communications and commercial awareness.

Restrictions

Due to Health and Safety requirements, there may be restrictions for applicants that are mobility impaired. If you are unsure as to your suitability for a placement, please contact us.

Work Experience Availability

Work Experience is available on selected dates only. between March and September each year.

Please note that due to the demand, not all applications will be successful and are not confirmed until final acceptance is made. Applications may be refused at our discretion where the above conditions of  location and interest are not demonstrated.

We would suggest to facilitate ease of travel  that the candidate lives within a reasonable travel distance of the Airport which is located in Salford, Greater Manchester. In all cases, candidates must live no more than 20 miles away.

If you require any additional information please contact us.

Work Experience Application Process

  • To introduce students to the discipline of the aviation working environment.

  • To encourage students to realise the need for effective personal & group working relationships.

  • To help students in making realistic decisions about their future careers.

  • To further develop their education by experiencing the world of work at first hand, and widening their educational experiences. To help students develop communication and interpersonal skills, attitudes and awareness of ‘The Real World’ when they seek employment, and hopefully to provide a firmer foundation for their transition to the world of work, thereby increasing their future prospects.
